Christmas is in three days. I have been pondering about what took place all those years ago. We all know that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th but I am thankful that a day has been set aside to be able to remember and celebrate Him. Think about it, the second person of the Trinity set aside His glory and "taking the form of a servant being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:7-8 He came as a baby and was born in a stable not a palace. "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, 'born of a woman, born under the law,' to redeem those who were under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons." Galatians 4:4-6a Who did God give the birth announce to? Was it the very "important people" of the world? No, the shepherds. Think about it, the shepherds got the birth announcement of The Good Shepherd. It seems perfect to me. What an amazing birth announcement! I wish I could have seen it. Luke 2:9-14 - "And an angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you; you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." And Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host (In the NLT it says 'the armies of heaven') praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased." Can you imagine seeing that many angles? The joy and celebration for them as they were able to witness how God was going to redeem man and bring man back into a right relationship with Him. Just thinking about this make my heart rejoice and praise God for what He has done. Jesus isn't just the baby in the manger. He is the Creator of the universe. He created you and me and yet He humbled Himself and became a baby to live and die for us, a rebellious and stiff neck people. Colossians 1:15-17 - "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through Him and for Him and He is before all things and in Him all things hold together." John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." As you celebrate Christmas may you rejoice as the angels did. It all culminates with Resurrection Sunday (Easter, Pasqua)! What an amazing God we serve! There is no greater joy than the Lord Jesus Christ! May the Lord use each one of us to bring people to see the beauty of our Savior.
